When we launched our Briefs series in 2016, we knew the books would be a hit: briefer (of course) even than our already-concise standard titles, and therefore a deeper dive within a tighter scope, like a shot of espresso rather than a cup of coffee. And the twelve titles that emerged certainly delivered, offering readers quick learning on specific topics within web design, development, and content.

What we didn’t expect was how much readers would request these titles in print. We intended for the Briefs series to be digital-only—and in 2016, that sounded like a solid bet. All around us, publishers were singing the praises of ebooks and claiming that paper was an artifact of the past. But even—or perhaps especially—within our audience of tech workers, readers asked for tangible reading experiences.

We wrapped the Briefs series after twelve amazing titles (which you can still snag individually!), but they continue to teach readers new skills, and deserve their own moment of ink. So we’ve brought them together in three new anthologies, available in a special edition printed hardcover format.

Volume 1, the Development Anthology, covers the how-tos of programming essentials like CSS Grid Layout, the command line, images, and pair programming. We hope this collection of Briefs continues to reach readers in a meaningful way.

Volume 2, the Design and Content Anthology, covers practitioner fundamentals like pricing and presenting design work, and creating and sustaining writing and content practices. We hope this collection of Briefs continues to reach readers in a meaningful way.

Volume 3, the Interface Design Anthology, covers key user interface considerations like color management and accessibility, animation and motion graphics, and webfonts. We hope this collection of Briefs continues to reach readers in a meaningful way.
