Get to know a little more about our wonderful authors in this series of “lightning round” questions. We’re really excited to share these insights from Laura Kalbag.

Oskar the dog

ABA: What is your favorite thing about your workspace?

Laura Kalbag: That it has my dog, Oskar, in it! We’ve been in many offices for the six years I’ve had him, both at home and in office spaces. If I’m frustrated with work, he’s always there for a cuddle. Often I’ll just look round at him and he’ll just be looking ridiculous. It always brightens my day.

ABA: What’s the first thing you do every morning to start your day on the right foot?

LK: Check my todo lists. At Ind.ie, I do a lot of different jobs, so I have a multitude of todo lists and daily tasks to make sure I don’t forget anything. Delegating the remembering to todo lists also helps me clear my mind of anything nagging at me, allowing me to focus on one thing at a time.

ABA: In your opinion, what should someone consider before starting out in web design / development?

LK: Whatever the web design and development work you do, if what you produce is being used by another person, you will have an impact on that person’s life. It can sound a little self-important, but it’s true. We are building the new “everyday things,” people are often using the products and services that we’re building more than they use vehicles, TVs, or their cookers at home. That means that our work requires that we build our products responsibly, and with care for those who use them.
